Grain Storage Calculators

Use our grain storage calculators for quick help with capacity, volume, drying, aeration, and other common calculations.

Bin Gauge

Two calculations off one bin: total capacity from ring count and diameter, and grain on hand from a tape drop down the sidewall.

How the volume is figured

Sidewall is a cylinder, πr²h. A peak or a drawdown funnel is a cone,⅓πr²h, added or subtracted. A hopper bottom is a frustum,⅓πh(R²+Rr+r²), down to the outlet.

Bushels

One struck bushel is 1.244456 ft³. That is a volume, not a weight — pounds come from multiplying bushels by test weight. Deep bins pack, so a real bin holds a few percent more than the geometry says; the pack factor is there for that.

Ring heights

Most corrugated sheets are 32″ or 33″ tall. Count rings from the foundation to the eave and confirm against a known stiffener or ladder run before trusting the total.

Before you sell against it

Angle of repose varies with moisture, fines, and how the bin was filled, and a drawdown cone is rarely a clean cone. Treat the result as a working inventory number, not a scale ticket.
